5月21日，达祖小学助学小组走访了位于盐源县西部的长柏乡荞满小学。由于不通公路，从达祖小学驱车大约3个小时，我们才抵达这里。一路上红土飞扬窜入口鼻，常常感觉车子走在碎土路上使不出力，有的地方还需要大家下车推着前行。司机师傅告诉我们，这样的路况，一旦遇到下雨，就根本没法走了。现在村子里稍有能力的人，就会举家外迁，所以剩下的一些，大多是家境极其贫困、根本无法离开的人们。

On the 21^st of May, a  volunteer team from Dazu primary school visited Changbo Xiangqiaoman primary school, which is located in the west of Yanyuan County. Since there are no roads, it took us three hours to drive from Dazu primary school to there. It was very dusty on the way and many times the car stopped due to the bad road and we had to get off and push the car forward. The driver told us that when it rains, cars cannot move at all, and that villagers who are a bit capable have all moved away from here. All the people left now are those in severe poverty, and cannot leave this place.

荞满村位于长柏乡最高的位置，海拔大约3800米，受地理位置和气候影响，这里的农作物种类贫乏，只能种植土豆、燕麦和苦荞，以及数量极少的玉米。村民告诉我们，玉米在这里大多数是长不好的。又由于交通不便，农作物无法运出，所以村民基本没有收入，自家种的作物用于自家食用或喂猪。

Qiaoman village is located at the highest place of Changbo village, with the altitude of 3800 meters. Influenced by geographic location and weather，the crops here lack in varieties. Only potatos, oats, buckweats and a little bit of corns can be planted. The villages told us that most time corns cannot grow well here. Due to the inconvenient transportation here, crops cannot be transported out, therefore villagers mostly don't have any income. They use self-planted crops to feed pigs and themselves.

 

 

 

 

 

 

还是运输的问题，全村没有一家小卖店，日常用品需要用马去外面驮回来。
如果小孩子需要铅笔文具，家长们要徒步两个小时到乡里去买。
这里鲜少有汽车进来，我们的到来令孩子们好生“围观”了一阵。

This is still the problem of transportation. There is no grocery store in the whole village, daily use products need to be transported to here by horses.
If children needs stationary, parents have to walk for two hours to buy it in the village. There are few cars that come in this area. The children all came out and surrounded us when we arrived.


荞满小学是公办村小，目前设一年级到三年级共三个班，八十余名学生。
四年级以上的同学全部要到乡里的中心校念书，虽然是义务教育，每周约20元的生活费也让很多家庭倍感吃力。
校长兼三年级老师卢老师告诉我们，前几年有一个他特别器重的学生，学习成绩非常优异，因为家庭无法承担去中心校的住宿生活费，不得不辍学，如今已经外出打工。

Qiaoman primary school is a public village school. It has  3 classes with altogether more than 80 students. Students above grade four need to go to study in the central campus in the village. Though it’s compulsory education，the RMB20 cost of living every week is quite much for many families.
Mr. Lu, the school principle and grade three teacher, told us that a few years ago he had a much favored student whose school performance was excellent. However since his family could not afford his living cost at school, he had to drop out and start working.



校园很大。除了泥巴墙和篮球框稍显破旧，校舍和厕所还是很好的。
国家对于村小的支持一般局限在校舍等基本建筑，其它方面的设施需要学校自筹。
The campus is big. Apart from the mud wall and basketball ring which are a bit old, the school building and toilet are still fine.
The country support the village school in its infrastructure, and all other facilities need to be financed by the school itself.


当地人习惯每日两餐，学校的上学时间是上午10：30至下午14：30，共5节课，中间没有吃饭时间。
学生全部是本村儿童，由于上学晚，一年级也有八九岁的孩子。
荞满村村民住得很分散，不起眼的山头或山沟里，也许就有两三家住户。学校位于村子的中心位置，在我们目光可及的范围内，他们要走回家，也是一段不短的路程。
The local people are used to having two meals a day. The school begins at 10:30 and ends at 14：30，with altogether 5 lessons a day, without lunch time in the middle.
All the students are children from this village. Since they go to school rather late, the grade one still has kids of eight or nine years old.
The villagers in Qiaoman Village live very scattered. In the fronton or mountain trench，there may be a few families. The school is located in the center of the village. From what we can see, it takes quie long a distance for them to walk home from school.


三年级学生少，教室也兼做杂物间。几个孩子正趴在桌子上写作业。

There are not many students in Grade Three. The classroom is also the grocery room. Several kids are bending over on the table doing homework.

一年级的小朋友很认生，看到照相机既好奇又害羞，一直悄悄地往镜头前面凑，可是真的对准他们的时候，他们又像受了惊吓一样地笑着跑开。

Grade one students are very diligent. They were curious and shy in front of the camera. They quietly moved in front of the lense to have a clear look, but when we were about to take their photos, they ran away laughing as if a bit frightened.


几个孩子坐在校园里玩石子，像我们小时候玩的那种抛羊骨的游戏，石子在手腕上翻来覆去。

A few kids sat in the campus playing with the stones, just like the game ‘throwing the goat bone’we used to play in the childhood.

 

 

 

 

 

 

学校通水，但是没有电。校长告诉我们，虽然申请过很多次，但有关部门目前没有给这里通电的打算。同样地，整个村子也是没有电的。卢老师回忆说，在七八十年代的时候这边通过一阵子电，后来电站被一个什么单位收购了，村里就没电了。目前荞满村属于长柏乡的高地，通电的成本很高，大概这也是一直没有通电的原因。
There is water in the school but no electricity. The principle told us that they have applied for electricity many time, but the related department doesn't have plans to provide electricity for the school. Similarly, the whole village doesn’t have electricity. Mr. Lu recalled that in the 80s, there was electricity here for a while, but then the power station was purchased by some company, and since then the village was out of electricity. Right now Qiaoman Village belongs to the highland of Changbai village. It is quite expensive to have electricity here. That is maybe why so far there’s sill no power here.


木头旗杆上悬着一根铁管，能猜出是什么机关吗？

原来是上课铃。用铁棍敲一敲，声音清脆。
Turns out it's the class bell. Knock it with the iron stick, the sound is clanging.


老师办公室也兼当宿舍。我们在宿舍里与老师们详谈。
荞满小学目前有教师三名，全部姓卢，我们权且成为小卢老师、中卢老师和大卢老师吧。
大卢老师是这里唯一的公办教师，带三年级的课，兼任校长。小卢老师刚刚担任教师两年，刚刚二十出头，是一年级的班主任老师。中卢老师带二年级，他已经在这里工作了11年，目前的代课薪资是每月500元。
小卢老师和中卢老师的家离这里很远，走山路要两三个小时，因此住宿在这里。
The teacher’s office is also the dormitory. We talked with the teachers in the dormitory. There are altogether three teachers in Qiaoman School, all with the surname of Lu. Let’s call them small Lu, middle Lu and Big Lu. Mr. Big Lu is the only public teacher in the school. He teaches the third grade and is also he principle. Mr. Small Lu started teaching two years ago and is himself a little above 20 years old. He is the in charge of the first grade. Mr. Middle Lu leads the second grade class. He has been working here for 11 years already. His current salary is RMB 500 every month.
Mr. Small Lu and Middle Lu’s homes are far away from the school. It takes them 2, 3 hours to walk home across the mountains. Therefore, they sleep in the school.


我们进行了学校的详细讯息登记。卢老师答应下次带我们去一些孩子的家中走访，我们希望能为一些成绩优异但生活困难的同学做点什么。比如寻找一些愿意对口捐助他们的好心人。
We had detailed school info registration. Mr. Lu promised to take us to visit some students’ home next time. We hope to do something for the students with high scores but difficult living condition, for example look for some corresponding donators for them.
离开的时候，孩子们站在台阶上目送我们。

When we left, the children looked after us on the stairs.



这个一年级的孩子怎么也整不好自己的书包。老师告诉我们，这个孩子的一只眼睛是看不到的。只因为在校园里玩耍时摔了一跤，木棍插到了眼睛里，村里没有卫生站，就这么耽误了。那村民看病怎么办呢？大卢老师说，病了，那就只能受着了。

This kid from the first grade could not sort out his schoolbag. The teacher told us one of the kid’s eyes is not working. He fell when playing in the campus, a wooden stick inserted into his eye. There are no hospitals in the village. He blinded his eye. So how do all the villagers get treatment when they are ill? Mr. Lu told us there is nothing the villagers can do if they get ill.


我们离开了荞满小学，路边的杜鹃花开得正浓，只是由于无人养护，花瓣上已经有了虫伤。
一年又一年，它们就这样，自开自谢。

As we left Qiaoman primary school，we saw therhododendrons along the road are booming, but without much care there were already worm bite marks on the flower pedals. Years after years, these flowers blossom and whither just like that.
